Hi there,
I noticed that some 4001/4003 jackplates looses with time their "rick o sound" and "standard" sign, other not. and i was wondering why ...
My 2004 4003 bought last year has the signs almost completely going away ...
Could it be that the ones losing the signs are fake ones ?
Thank you

No, more than likely the wearing away of the lettering is a sign that it is a genuine Rick jackplate. RIC prints the letters "Standard" and "Rick-O-Sound" with black ink - I'm not sure if they are silk-screen or tampo printed - onto the chromed jackplate. When "Fakenbackers" were being made in Japan, most with the double outlet's had stamped letters that said "Normal" and "Stereo." The stamped letters and numbers on the RIC jackplate are the date code and serial numbers.

Never understood why they couldn't stamp all the writing so it will last.

Maybe we need to be more careful when plugging in the 1/4" jacks.
It's too early in the morning to talk about our relationship !

No matter how careful you are, the writing will wear with age and handling. I, too, wish it were stamped on the jackplate.

I never look at mine anyway. I keep my cord tip between two fingers and my thumb, then I glide a third finger down the edge of the bass until I find that first jack (the "standard" jack) and then I insert.
It wouldn't matter to me if it said Ric-O-Sound, Chickenfoot, or nothing at all.
