Your favorite amp?

My favorite amp is a Vox AC15CC1X (Blue Celestion). I mostly play at church and in my music room at home, so I don't need the power of an AC30-----although I'd love have one. My wife on the other hand, would not be amused at all by an AC30

I used to tell customers that their wives were bound to not be amused by something they did, so they should at least have the gear that they wanted

CLF got his terminology all wrong way back when and it seem folks still haven't figured that out.

Vibrato is a change in pitch; tremolo is the cutting off of the waveform, to put it simply.

I have 2 favorite amps. The first is a 1974 Silver face Deluxe Reverb with a Tone Tubby Alnico speaker and run with a THD Hot Plate at home. This amp works well with all guitars. It has 2 channels, but you can't plug your ROS cable into both at the same time.

The second is a Vox AC15 Heritage combo, which is really sweet with the Rics, can use the ROS and has a vintage EF-86 channel. The Celestion Blue is worth the price of admission.

In the jack of all trades, master of none; is a SuperChamp XD. It nails Fender tweed and blackface well, Plexi well and Vox so-so.

Next time I go to a Confluence, the Vox is coming, too.

Most likely the two channels don't output the same polarity. Channel two probably has an extra gain stage compared to channel one making it "out of phase" in relation to it, due to either the reverb or the vibrato tremolo.

You're right, Jeff. The 2 channels are out of phase.

I know there are ways to mod the circuit so you can have reverb on both sides to be in phase, but I have not done it.

Over the last month or so I've been A/B'ing a bunch of amps, and to my surprise the one that's beaten all comers so far is a tweed Deluxe clone (5E3 circuit). It doesn't have a whole lot of headroom but it's been able to keep up with a number of bigger amps in the volume department while staying relatively clean, and even with just one tone knob it gets the best tone I've heard yet.

Among the amps I put up against it was my Rickenbacker TR25. The TR25 comparitively was a lot brighter---I had to keep the treble control down around 2 or 3 to keep it under control. The TR25 was also "glassier" in tone. With the single-coil guitars I usually play it didn't have a whole lot of guts in a band setting, but I think it would be great with a humbucker guitar. And, Rickenbacker amp tremolo is right up there with Fender, IMO. Even my little TR7 has the great tremolo.

I've got a real 1956 Tweed Deluxe and it is a favorite amp of mine for sure, though I like it much better with single coils rather than humbuckers. it is a dark amp overall, especially when compared to the blackface Fenders of later years or to an AC30.

I've been using a Black Face Princeton Reverb with a 15" Webber for years now. Great amp. I also have a Vox AC30CC1 (single 12") that I used occasionally. This weekend for the first time, I borrowed a friends A/B/Y switch and used both amps at the same time. It was heaven. I'll probably sell the AC30 and get an AC15TV - 30 watts is way more than I need, but the combination of the Fender and Vox at the same time was incredible. I've never owned a boost/overdrive pedal that I was completely sold on, but running the Vox a little hot and the Fender clean produced an amazing sound. Sure it's a bit of a handful to carry to gigs, but I'm going to try it for a while and see how it goes. Also opens up some interesting stereo effects chain options. My two favorite guitar amps have been the AC30 and the Twin
However they are both too loud for my uses, plus I couldn't afford an AC30 and couldn't lift a twin.
I've always kept my Fender Champ 25se (valve/SS hybrid) and have just scored a Princeton Chorus.
I've had a JC120 and just have sold my rather rare Roland Bolt 60 (another valve/SS hybrid)
To me it's not a Solid state vs Valves sort of thing, I've heard some great SS amps and some stinkers of tube amps.
When it comes down to it there is only two types of amps.. good ones and bad ones....

Bass amps are different, but that is another story...

How did you get the 15 into the cabinet? Or, are you using an extension cab with the head?

Actually I bought the BFPR on E-Bay - it was in a head only cabinet that someone had made by cutting down a vintage PR cab. I figured the sacrilege had already been committed so I had a combo cab made for it, specifying the speaker I wanted to use. The Cabinet measures in at about 20" wide x 20" tall (about the size of a Vox AC15TV). Obviously it's not as tight sounding and chimey as the 10", but it definitely has a nice balance of highs and lows. The low end is comparable or better than my 2-10" BF Vibrolux and it's clean but just starts to break up nicely with volume set at 4 or above, which is plenty loud for the gigs I play. And really there's no appreciable difference in sound level from 6 - 10. It was somewhat inspired by seeing these http://www.gomezamps.com/. I'll post pictures when I have a chance.

I like the 12" Celestion in my Princeton Reverb. I read a great review on the Gomez Adams amp in VG magazine a while back.
