Re: PROJECT "X" DEBUTS!
Thanks, guys!
HINT: The owner posts here often and the instrument will be shipped out of the USA in order to reach him or her.

Re: PROJECT "X" DEBUTS!
I hate seeing these threads as Jingle Jangle sets the bar a little higher with the completion each new project. It's 2 1/2 years since Paul finished my 730S, which makes it bland in comparison to what he's finishing today.
BTW, my guess is that Project X belongs to Jwilli

Re: PROJECT "X" DEBUTS!
Wowza! Fantastic! Lovely job Paul!
Could you fill us in on some more of the details regarding the original and modded specs of the guitar?
Judging from the 24 fret neck's ending where it joins the body, I gather you constructed the neck yourself, yes, or is it different for the 320/350 style body? On the 330/360 bodies, 24 fret neck fretboards end past the body edge. Is this a 320 or a 350? I can't quite tell from the photos, but I'm guessing the latter-I'm still sipping my first cuppa joe this morning.
As for who the guitar belongs to, if it had triangle inlays, I might guess Ron Viney, but I don't think so since it's dots, and he's not a super frequent poster. Scotty's a 330/360 player, so that leaves him out, and Graham only likes old Ricks, so that eliminates him. Meddy's a WB guy like me, so that would leave him out, and that knocks out most everyone I can think of outside the States, except Aitch. Is it Aitch?

Remember, Dan, the 330 I did last month with the FWCP inlays. It had a 24th fret inlay, 'cuz there was a dot there originally.dpowell wrote:Love the color. I guess inlays wouldn't have worked on the 24-fret fingerboard without making a new one? I like the look of the dot neck with the checkerboards in any case!
The owner loves dots.

Re: PROJECT "X" DEBUTS!
Paul, it's a 24-fret 1993 350, not the later 21-fret V63 version. So the neck and fretboard are original. It also came with an "R" tailpiece, which has been replaced with the trapeze.paologregorio wrote:Wowza! Fantastic! Lovely job Paul!

The body and headstock were both cut for binding after the body was stripped of its original finish, and the body was stairstep cut to accommodate both checkerboard purfling and white outer binding. The binding is genuine celluloid (which I use on all my builds and restorations). The headstock has been narrowed a total of 7/16" (7/32" from each side) for a slimmer "vintage" look, and shortened by 1/4" to keep it proportionate. The RIC-Tite tuners cover the old Schaller holes completely. I wish that the photos would show the very subtle ambering of the binding, but it simply looks white... and the burst color is also subtler than the photos show--it's not nearly so bright orangey.
Anymore guesses on where it's going and who it's destined for? It's not Australia.

Not Jwilli's. And I'm going back to basics with the next acoustic, which is being finished right now. Pics in a week or two...wmthor wrote:I hate seeing these threads as Jingle Jangle sets the bar a little higher with the completion each new project. Love the light burt; add checkered binding and Bob's yer uncle.
It's close to an iced tea burst (one of my favorites).

Not Manta.
In fact, the owner is the last person whom anyone would think of as "crazy"...
