Milestones

Post by jimk »

Here's a Youtube clip that was previously unknown to me. The first bit seems to be lifted from a Miles Davis chart. And the second bit seems to be either a demo, or an unfinished track called "The Flower Bomb Song."

Ahhh, the infamous "Flower Bomb" song.

Crosby gave that song to the Jefferson Airplane:

Bob Harvey (original Airplane bass player) – David Crosby had one song he wanted us to do called “Flower Bomb.” I’m gonna build a flower bomb and drop it on your mind.

David Crosby – It’s not a real song. Never happened. Apocryphal.

Signe Ettlin (original Airplane singer) – No, that’s honestly one we did. He wrote that and gave it to us.

Allegedly McGuinn lifted a lick from a Miles Davis composition called "Milestones." Being unfamiliar with the tune, I couldn't say whether or not it's true.

Now that I think, "All Blues" by Miles ("Kind of Blue") kinda gives birth to "Gathering of Tribes" on "The Notorious Byrd Bros.": 'strange thing gathering of tribes' . Check it out... 8)
