Last pic of the input jacks....I thought there was some sort of labeling as to which jack was which or a Ric O Sound label???

If they were not swapped around, the jack near where it says RF should be the ROS jack. Keep in mind it only works correctly with a stereo cable and there should be no cable plugged in the standard (mono) jack.

Welcome aboard Markus, and that is one beautiful flamey MG! Gotta love the tone of the 70s 4001 basses. Mine is a '75 and is on the first page of the thread.

I've found on my V63, with both the toaster and RIHS at 12k, they both sound very close to each other without the cap in and I like a bit more tonal difference than that. The C64 basses have the .0047uF cap, but the V63 basses did not have it in. So I plan on putting one in. I'd thought of adding the switch like RIC uses now, but didn't want to alter the V63 that much.

As for the RIC flats, they haven't offered them in many years. I had an opportunity to get a NOS set of Rickenbacker flatwound strings that dated back to the 70s or maybe early 80s from a fellow forum member. He'd gotten them from eBay from an older guy that found them in his leftover stock he was clearing out many years after closing his music store. They were made by Maxima and are very similar to TI flats.

Mark, I am finding on my 3 horseshoe'd basses it depends. With the RIHS, I like the cap out with the RIC flats on my 4003 but in on my V63 (gotta add one there). On my 4003S with the magnet shoes (8k coil), I like the cap in.

I just added one of the caps I got from Mark to my V63. Now it sounds like the vintage Rick it looks like!

Very nice shape Peter. That white background really shows off the Burgundy. Being a Burg and lefty it has to be a rare one.

1979 does indeed seem like a good year for us lefties, as the majority of vintage ones I've seen as well are from that year. (Just as 1978 was a good year for lefty Fenders, but if only in quantity. ) I bought mine from The Music-Connection almost 10 years ago already(!), and to my surprise was already entered in the registry by him when I went to do it myself yesterday.

It's an amazingly stable instrument. A week or so after I bought it, I brought it in for a proper setup. I have not had a single adjustment done on it since! I've strung with various different string brands and gauges over the past decade, and still it's NEVER required any adjustment to the height, intonation, or truss rod. Amazing. I've since installed the push/pull cap pot and I'm debating about whether or not to put a toaster PUP in the neck, but truthfully it's perfect.

Peter, its really hard to fault the 70s higains, and I love toasters too. Not much difference in tone clarity between the two.

OK, here's my finished 1978 Mapleglo 4001. Thanks to Eden in Oz, I have a vintage 1978 white TRC. Pick guard is from RickySounds. Paul from Sound-Me-Out did the setup and sorted-out the uneven fret wear and the electronics (installed a replacement input jack as the old one was very sloppy). Quiet as a mouse, classic ricky sound....can you say "HEAVEN!" ?
