I love this thread!
I have a lot of comments, but don't want them deleted.
Re: Ric Acquisition Syndrone and Spouses/Relationships
I just got married about a month ago and my wife is very supportive of all of my musical endeavors, as long as I'm doing my part to get the bills and mortgage paid. She even let me have the second room of the basement for my practice space. It's great to have all of my gear together, but there are some complaints from time to time as she hears everything from the basement through the wood flooring. Her favorite to listen to is bass and her least favorite is drums. She's also a sign-language interpretter so I'm constantly reminded to watch the volume. I don't think that I'll forget the look on her face though when she saw all of the gear together for the first time, as it had been scattered between our apartment and my parents' house. When she did see it all though, she immediately hunted down the 325/12v63 that she gave me right after we became engaged. Everytime she sees it, I think that she's closer to asking how to play it.

Matt, beat her to the punch - show her a few basic chords.
As for the sound penetrating upstairs, get a roll of 6" kraft faced Cornings pink long fiber insulation and staple it to the floor joists. That will cut down most of the volume to the upstairs. Then you can dress it up by adding ceiling tile or plasterboard when funds allow.

Re: Ric Acquisition Syndrone and Spouses/Relationships
My husband is responsible for my Rickenbacker fetish.... I know I've told this story before. He used to have a 4001 bass when he was in college that he liked to play once in a while, but he never felt that he was very good at it, so he wound up selling the bass. Years later, after we got married, I started learning to play guitar on a Takamine acoustic that he found for a good price in the local ads. I kind of wanted to get an electric guitar, and he kept telling me how wonderful Rickenbackers were, and how much I would love playing them, but at that time we didn't have a lot of extra money. Then we had kids, and I no longer had time to play guitar, or so I thought.... Then our anniversary came in June of 2002, and he came in the door with a mysterious hard case, saying it was for me.... I popped the latches open and couldn't believe my eyes: A Rickenbacker 330 6-string, in Fireglo! At the time it was the most beautiful guitar I had ever seen close up. Yes, it had a few dings and dents and some finish checking, but I could tell at a glance that this was a real electric guitar that was beautifully crafted, not a cheapie beginner's electric guitar. I picked it up and tuned it, unplugged, and struck a chord, and I was in heaven--the tone was so pure and clear, and it was so easy to play. From that day on I haven't stopped playing guitar, and soon began writing my own songs. And then a couple of months later a Ric 12-string arrived, and over the next few years more Rics arrived for various special occasions, as well as amps and some other really nice gear. So I would have to say that my husband has been key to building my collection of Rics and feeding my RAS. This is only a part of my collection:
Oh, and I still have my first Ric, but now it looks like this, thanks to Paul Wilczynski:

That is a great story too Mellibee.
Some great women out there.....and some seriously controlling ones.
When my Mum came to visit, she looked at all my guitars and asked how much they were worth. She then said I could have new carpets if I sold one or two!!!!!
I think I must be adopted.

True Scotty.
Good thanks mate and we have had some pretty heavy rain, but not as much as you. I used to live near Stonehaven. I felt so sorry for them.
Hope you are not too wet through in Glasgeee.

I suddenly found myself single again a couple of months ago. Glad I didn't pass up getting my v59 last Spring, even if it was a bone of contention, 'cause now I'd have neither one of them. I'm very happy with the way things turned out.
All I wanna do is rock!
