My AM radio is one of these:

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

I must admit mine's FM only, just like the tuner in my stereo system.

A 1960's Silvertone 4209 I got it at the thrift store for $0.80. I always look for old transistor radios at thrift stores but this is the only one I have found. I used to have a Truetone Six Transistor that I got in 1963. I used to listen to WINS at night "with the covers pulled up" over my head. Rock and Roll radio with Murray The K and Mad Daddy!

Picked up an interesting pair of speakers this afternoon. Monster in size and weight but, at $50 for the pair, I found them hard to pass up. Didn't hook them up to my stereo yet, but listened to Vivaldi and Metallica at the person's home who i got them from . He said the brand is Living Audio and that he got them from an estate sale.

I have more pics, but the speakers look like they had the veneer stripped from them. No...I'm not going to send them to Paul W to be refinned in Fg

Me too, Mitch. I could get radio from WBZ, a station in Des Moines, and one in Atlanta. Not many others at 2 am in the morning. I didn't have a working earphone so I would put the radio under the pillow right by my ear. Lost a lot of sleep that way!

How about JG, then, Mark?

Well, listen to them, and if they make you happy, you're in. But keep on listening to other speakers, too, and if you find something that sounds better to your ears, find out why, and keep listening.

Eventually you'll find some that aren't any sort of bargain. In fact, price won't be a factor. They'll simply sound so good, that you won't even consider price. Then try to match "that" sound with what you can afford--barely.

A really good sound system is like psychoanalysis...you have to be making some sort of financial sacrifice to get the most out of it. At least that's what my friend at Freud's Stereo Emporium sez...

yup..being an audiophile, it's a process(variation on line from Analyze This "grieving, it's a process")

That said, I am convinced there's some pretty good vintage stuff out there which will satisfy my audio needs without breaking the bank. Same guy that sold me the speakers also has a B&O turntable, plus a receiver with a controller. He just isn't sure if it works yet. I asked for dibs on it ;)

You're not out to break the bank, Marc...but you've gotta feel some pain.

Oh, I felt pain. Carrying 90lbs speakers into the house.

Have no fear Paul, one day you'll see me selling all my music equipment because I'm desperate for some hifi stuff.

Desperate? Then you need this stuff.

And, don't forget, it doesn't stop till all the holes in back are filled!

Found an early set of OHM 100's at an estate sale today for $100....interesting omnidirectional design with the speaker firing downward...
