I'm aiming this question at both guitar and bass players here...
How do you get your sound from your Ric and amps?
I'll give you an example to show what I mean:
From the amp, I usually have my amp (Deluxe Reverb)'s Vibrato channel on with Treble on 9 or 10, bass on 3 or 4 (got to have some bottom end there). Whether it's open jamming, covering someone else's work or even (trying) to write my own music, that's how the settings stay. I rarely add reverb, and when I do, it's usually on 5. When adding tremelo, I usually fiddle around with that 'til I get a tone I like.
From the 6-string guitar (1997), I almost always have it in the bridge position. I get a brighter tone that can get agressive if I want it to. I get a classic jangle when it's in the middle, and a warm tone for blues and jazz in the neck position.
From the 12-string, it's always in the middle (I achieve the most jangle there), unless I do Byrds or Who stuff, then it's in the bridge for that aggressive sound. It sounds too muffled and muddy in the neck position.

Re: Amp settings/selector switch position
Guitar: Rick 360/12 string, standard hi gain pickups.
Kustom: Treble-->5:00 (max)
Bass-->5:00
Volume-->about 8:00 (any higher, and it's too loud for home consumption. Seven o'clock is minimum.) Bridge pick-up routed to Kustom via Rick-O-Sound output. There's plenty of jangle here.
MusicMan Treble-->10
Bass-->10
Reverb-->7 or 8 (on/off via foot switch)
Volume-->between 1 and 2
Neck pick-up routed to Jangle Box, MXR Carbon Copy, and to Music Man via Rick-O-Sound output
Adjustments are made with the guitar's tone controls and fifth knob.
Pickup switch up (neck pickup) for country and rockabilly. Pickup switch in center position for maximum jangle and chime for a Byrds style sound.
For small gigs, I just use the MusicMan and run the guitar in mono. Settings are the same, roughly. In this case, the pickup switch usually remains in the center position.

Re: Amp settings/selector switch position
Ampeg SVT-3 Pro and 410HLF cab. Treble boost and bass boost switches on, bass pot up about 7.5, mid up about 6, treble up about 6.5-7 IIRC, tone switch on 1, tube bias all the way up, and input gain to just light the overload led. On the bass, both pups on, tone up all the way both pups, and if I have the cap in then both volume pots up full. If no cap, I roll either the neck or bridge volume down a bit to get the opening of the sound. Bass for more trebly sound; bridge for more bassier sound.

Re: Amp settings/selector switch position
On my bass, both pickups on and all volume and tone pots full on.
All the eq and filters on my Markbass head are set to 0 or turned off.

Re: Amp settings/selector switch position
I usually always use my basses with both pickups on and all the volume and tone controls full on.
Sometimes I'll roll off a little volume of the neck pickup or on tone controls. It depends on the song.
For my FL basses, I usually only use one pickup at a time, volume and tone full on. I prefer the fretless sound that way, any fretless bass, not just Ricks. Soon you guys will get a listen to my 4001FL on the neck pickup only.
This is the way my SWR amp is usually set. In between my bass and the amp is a Sansamp Bass Driver BDDI for when I want a little overdrive which is set similar but not exactly to the recommended SVT configuration.

JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!
Re: Amp settings/selector switch position
I'll typically set the amps treble at about half maybe a tad higher, the bass and middle around a 1/3. Then I'll generally roll the tone knob off a bit on the guitar, unless I'm playing in the neck position, in which case I'll roll the guitar's tone all the way up.
What I'm using mostly at the moment is a BJ through a TonelabSE, but I do pretty much the same settings on any of my amps.
