i did as well- but only when i first got it. i love it but i do have certain frustrations with it. i find it very very hard to play in certain positions....such as an open A major chord..and i have very small hands. it doesnt stay in tune long for me either for some reason. and, i play a wide variety of stuff that requires a 6. but, ive played everything on my 12 --even reggae. if i was playing in a band and had two Ricks, i would certainly grab the 12 for certain tunes. but as my go-to guitar, the 12 just is not it these days. since im not playing in a band, i figure i can just throw on the octave stings when i feel like playing the 12 or if a recording project calls for it...until i find a way to buy another Rick which hopefully will be soon

was looking at some pics of mr sonic smith and i think our right. and it seems he left his extra tuners on also

"Sonic" Smith (rip) played a RIC? I had no idea. Learn something new here every day. Thanks!

just an update. ive played my 12 as a 6 on and off for almost 2 years now with no problem. i find it fun and inspiring to leave the octave strings on just certain strings, like the D and G strings, or sometimes just the high E. the neck has stayed put and all is well :D
