congratulations,me!

Post by woodyng »

As some of ya'll know, i am a memphis boy with an oregon mortgage....well after 2 years of trying,i was offered a virtual job with my company,so i am moving from memphis to brookings, after training, sometime in the next 2 monthes. it's going to be a 2500 mile road trip. i hate :x driving, so will probably only average 500-600 miles daily. i'm thinking i will probably have to go the southern route,to avoid snowstorms,etc...i would love to see colorado, montana, idaho, but i imagine the weather is gonna be pretty brutal in december/january....anybody want an overnite guest (with accomodation for my rick basses)?

Very good news, Woody. Congratulations.

Cool! Virtual jobs, or should that really be remote or teleworking jobs, are pretty cool. I live 800 miles from my "office" in Boise.

As for travel in Dec/Jan through Montana/Idaho, it's pretty hard to make a guess until it's time to travel. Idaho's not too bad as long as you stay out of the mountains (traveling I15/I86/I84 through Pocatello/Twin falls/Boise). It's rare for those roads to get snowed shut, 'course, it can happen. Montana is similar, the Mountains get to be a pain when it snows, though the interstates don't stay closed for long.

Anyway, if you're comin' through the North East part of Montana (on U.S. Hwy 2), you're welcome to stop by!

Congratulations Woody! If you were coming through California, you'd be very welcome to stop by, but I doubt you'll be coming this far west. :D

Here's a couple of sites I use when I travel between Montana & Idaho in the winter (which is more often than I'd like)

Montana Road Conditions map:
http://www.mdt.mt.gov/travinfo/map/mtmap_frame.html

Idaho Road Conditions map:
http://hb.511.idaho.gov/main.jsf

These update frequently, I almost always check 'em just before I leave. I'm sure there are sites for other states too.
Really handy for winter traveling...

Congrats Woody.... (apologies in advance if you know all this)..... I moved (from HI) to Corvallis OR 2 1/2 years ago so I'm entering my 3rd OR winter. Having lived for 5 years in NH at one point I found the OR winters easier to take than common folklore implies. Yea, it rains a lot but the weather is constantly changing so even on rainy days you'll often get a period of sunshine. Snow is rare. I took up skiing and (from where I am) terrific slopes are only a 2-3 hr drive away. Although farther south, you'll be by the coast so it'll be colder and windier, but boy is it beautiful around there... all those coastal towns are really neat. .... and yea, your southern route is a wise choice. Around here the pretty leaves are on their last leg, but there is still plenty of nice driving weather to go. HAVE FUN and DRIVE CAREFULLY! 8)
