I can make it bigger but the file you sent was small; if I do make it bigger the image quality will suffer dramatically. :(

Okay, I enlarged it, lightened it a bit and sharpened it some. Not as bad as I thought it would be.

finger rest, old style surround, dot neck, hmmmm. oldie or made up ? though i don't think he's a fanatic enough to put a finger rest on. he used to use a jetglo deluxe on april wine "live" or was it in the "stand back" gatefold ?

i guess this got hijacked into a wine thread !!!!

i think the bassist in "survivor" had one in the "cant hold back " vid. check youtube.

now it's a suvivor thread. lol !

I think it is an oldie, it looks like a '60s tailpiece on it, too. Reshaped horns, also.

That bass looks like a '50s 4000 with the short upper horn.

an interesting aspect of the april wine photo ,being black and white,is that it suggests a 2 tone fender-ish tobacco sunburst, which i think would look fantastic.......something different.....

re: bto's chamois suit,oh man i had forgotten that sort of prairie man look those guys used to have.....thanks for the memory jog!

did any of the '50's 4000 basses have a tobbaco burst ? i think i've seen one somewhere in some mag along the way. smiths book lists a few for '58-'60 with the notation of "DK". for dark, perhaps ? tobbaco burst ? two tone brown ? autumnglo ?

btw...my cousin, when he lived in halifax nova scotia , bought jerry mercer's phibes clear drumkit in the late '70's after he switched to milestone drums. i'll see if he still has contact with him and maybe could get a message off to jim on this subject. any one else have current contact with wine ? ( no, not the booze )

i photocopied page 102 in smiths book of the 4000 on the left in b+w and the fireglo appears the same tone as clenches bass although not the same spray pattern. so could be fireglo from '63 to '68 with that surround...we'll see as this unfolds.
