Dave,
I actually like the classic look of the old bolts even though they don't provide the security of a locking system. 2 weeks ago I just put one onto the upper horn of my '72 fretless to replace the locking type that came with her. Fine looking bolt!
John,
I seem to have downloaded that ad image from Voxtalks almost a year ago. This past January, I found the A4 sized ad (probably cut from inside a GW annual buyer's guide issue) pinned to a wall in my local store where I buy stuffs. I asked the owner if I could buy it and he let me have it for free.
Since I live far away "in the East" and don't know much, may I ignorantly ask those of you living in the US why Courteny seems to be quite an issue/eyesour? She looks pretty hot to me...
Unfortunately, the plastic Dunlop straplocks do not fit on the bolts for the 4003 basses with the strap. They split apart. THe standard Schaller straplock screws are for the guitar, they are way too small for the bolt holes. The top pieces don't fit on the regular bolt, b/c it has no divet for the mechanism to lock. So, I guess I could drill the divet into the screws, and then they'd work, but I'd rather just buy a machined set of shiny ones. Anyway, thanks for your suggestions but I found some of the screws @ string-it.com
Has anyone suggested ordering the bolts from Rickenbacker? I ordered four sets about three years ago, and they work great! They are the same thread diameter as the regular bolts and they work with the straplock that comes with the Shaller set. I have a couple of extras left, but I planned to get some more when my 350v63 finally arrives...
"This is the big one, Elizabeth, I'm coming to join ya, honey!"
Repairgirl, you are correct, the plastic Dunlop Lok Straps have too small a closed diameter to fit over the Schaller buttons, but they will fit the old style RIC buttons just fine. I'm sure Owen brought it up (and I seconded it) because you mentioned having a 4003 that you wanted to equip with Schaller buttons. If yours did not already have Schaller buttons, then it must have the old style buttons.
Hi everybody
I'm trying to get the old 4003 strap bolts cause I want to use the plastic Dunlop locks (I don't like the Schaller system cause I had a bad experience )... I tried to change the Schaller bolts but the screw is too big. Will this old Rickenbacker strap lock fit in my 2008 rick?.... thanks
