i believe it was one of John Hall's first designs, and sort of aimed at catching some of the Fender market at an affordable price. It has a very flat (practically no radius) very thick, unfinished slab rosewood fretboard which is great for slide if that's your inclination, or just fine for standard playing as well. Standard nut and bridge measurement.

And I should add that, while the design breaks with what we think of as Rickenbacker "tradition", it's basic, built like a brick outhouse, and ROCKS, from both sound and playability standpoints.

My OOGLEE comment was referring to the paint work...and hits me more the harder I look at it. Simply looks like a bad taxicab.

Yeah, it's a Death Cab for OOGlee...

I concur with Kira and Paul ... the 430 I had was a really nice instrument, and had a pretty good bit of a Telecaster 'twang' to its sound. I traded it (plus cash) for a 355JL (which I no longer have, either ... sigh!).

Yes, Aitch, it would hurt to look at it even while it was being restored! :D

Hey for $500.00 or so Aitch it would be a great guitar after you had it refinished. JG is a great colour too.

So I should buy it and have it shipped to you for evaluation, Brian?

Or maybe to PW to hang on to it until my next invasion?

Maybe if I did the latter and Paul opened the case when it arrived he'd take pity on it/me and strip it gratis!!

Just re-read the fine print on Elderly's site, it's "no longer available." Ah well.
