In praise of Danelectros

Obviously I don't expect ilegal materials like Brazilian RW, or even correct materials on a $300 guitar, even if it belies their "original spec" claims.

I think the specs were about the headstock shape, finish, tuners, rosewood saddle bridge, etc and maybe not the construction details.

On a masonite body, I highly doubt any other materials make a significant change in tone.

I've got two Danos.. A Dano Pro Reissue and a 60's Silvertone 1457.. and I love both.

I used the Pro on one of the songs on our last EP.

Left channel and all the fuzz leads are the Dano through an AC30.. right channel is a 62' LP/SG junior through a 60's Pro Reverb.

The Dano Sounds way better and is the focal point.

Also.. both Dano's were my main gigging guitar for periods of time.

I tried both the new Dead on 58' models in a shop recently and though build quality SUCKED.

The "Coral" guitar's bridge was cut INSANELY with some strings right next to eachother (on ALL the guitars.. though some were worse).

The pickups sounded good though.

The other was the new Long Horn bass.. and it just didn't do it for me.

As much as I love my Pro reissue.. the necks on these things are NOTHING like real Danos necks.. and that is a huge part of why the vintage ones are soo great.

i really love the sound(s) i can get on my hodad 3 pickup bass-it sounds huge and full with flat and roundwound strings. whenever i switch from playing it to one of my ricks or my jazz bass,the first thing anyone notices is "where did all the deep bass go"? not bad for $399 list......of course,i had to have the frets filed a bit,and the bridge has a shim,but there's almost ALWAYS work that has to be done on a guitar to make it YOURS.....oh,and i think it is one of the coolest body shapes ever.....

Pretty lame, IMO. (and I'm a rabid Claton fan....)

Not the greatest "style" of the Psychedelic era...looks a bit silly, and costs $100 more. Doesn't sound like much....but it raises the cost of the guitar by 33.3%

ps...anybody else notice it's in a Rickenbacker case? Looks kinda guitar-sized too. I'm sure Pete had a few extra Ric cases with no Rics to go in them anymore!
