There is a bit of drop off on the G string with the bridge pickup, but I usually have both pickups on and it's not terribly noticeable with both on. Still trying to figure the buzz. I'm pretty sure the wire to the bridge is making contact, but when I touch the strings or the bridge, the buzzing gets louder. When I turn the tone knob down (less bright), the buzz becomes almost imperceptible. Volume knobs don't seem to have much affect on the buzz. Anyone?

I thought that sort of thing only happened with single coils--is it directional or non-directional? If it's non-directional you may need shielding... which frankly I would find really surprising. Having played two 4004s at this point, in very "electrical" environments at that, neither was the least bit noisy.

Enjoy your bass... looks lovely. I envy your 5-string-itude as well.

So I know these "foward-spaced" 4004s match the 4003's 1'' neck pickup spacing, but is the bridge pickup at the 4003 position also or is it more of a Jazz Bass position?

Me too actually, I really love the current positioning's tone, but I haven't played the other variety to compare. Still--I heard a lot of bad things about the tone of the current positioning so when I finally played one my mind melted. They sound sooo good.

Paul B - sounds like a ground somewhere is not there, if that makes sense. With humbuckers, it shouldn't buzz, unless a ground is off. Look at the pickup. Also for one of the wires at the pickups to be bare and touching metal.

Got the buzz fixed. My local techie figured there was something wrong with the output jack. Replaced it with the same brand, and I'm "Through with Buzz."

Yes, that's an interesting idea indeed! RIC doesn't seem to have a schematic for the 4004LK on their site, does anyone know how the 3 pickups are wired? I assume the switch doesn't have more than the standard 3 positions.

I guess you could do the stacked knob V/T's and add a 3rd set and have one for each pickup...

It has been a few years since I worked on Gary Wilkinson's LK but if I recall correctly it is wired like other Rick 3 pickup guitars. The neck and middle pickups are wired together. Maybe Brian can chime in here.
