It's a beaut Peter! Welcome from another lefty!

Hey Jeff,
I'm always real happy to hear from fellow lefties!
Actually, lurking the forums here I'm pleasantly surprised how many lefty-related threads there are.

I'm a sinistrous person too. But you'd never know it.
There wasn't anybody around to tell me to turn the guitar over when I started playing, so I learned to play right handed.

Re: Hi from a first-time Rick owner
Welcome to the forum Peter. If there were any left handed guitars available when I was learning to play guitar at a decent price I might have been a lefty too as my left hand was my dominant hand at the time. As it turns out, now I am somewhat ambidextrous. After 46 years or so of playing guitar I doubt that I could play left handed now though.

Thanks for sharing, Peter and may I also add my welcome to the growing list. As you know by now, there is much to talk about when it comes to Rickenbackers.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Re: Hi from a first-time Rick owner
I've added some more pics in the register for those that may be interested. By the way, I need to give credit to the original owner of the guitar for these pictures. I haven't taken any of my own yet.
Brian, learning to play righty never felt like an option for me, completely unnatural. I learned to play on a converted righty Les Paul copy but once I got my first proper lefty (a Fender Strat) I never went back to righties (except for acoustics). I really admire any lefty who can persevere in learning to play righty though; I know a couple of folks like this.

Re: Hi from a first-time Rick owner
Peter M., I'm a lefty who learned guitar righty, simply because there were no lefty guitars available in my neighborhood when I was a kid. It didn't feel like perseverance; just naturally as difficult as learning any other new task.
I think there are a lot of folks out there in the same situation.
(it also gives me an excuse for ****** playing!)

A friend of mine, who happens to be the Exec. Director of the Americana Music Academy (where I teach) is a left handed player. He'd like to find a left handed Rick, but he doesn't think he can, at a price he could afford. I keep telling him about the RRF, and to keep an eye out, that he might find a deal. (I secretly think he's a little envious of me

I'm with Paul W., a southpaw who plays guitar right handed. It feeIs "unnatural" to try to do some things left handed to me. I also batted righty, golfed righty, but shoot lefty and kick lefty.
Come to think of it, I suck at those right handed skills, too!
Thanks for a legitimate excuse for poor playing, Paul!

Hey, now I've got an excuse too! Thanks!
Yeah, I'm a lefty who plays righty too. I've been of the opinion that the standard right handed instruments were actually designed for lefties. I mean, what you do with your left hand, chord formations, etc. generally requires a lot more dexterity than what you do with your right hand (well, not in the case of Flamenco and other complex picking styles). So, it just seems like a lefty would be better adapted to a standard guitar...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: Hi from a first-time Rick owner
I know of a lefty who can play left handed, Right handed, and a guitar strung right handed lefty. How can he keep it all straight?

John Simmons can do all that.ken_j wrote:I know of a lefty who can play left handed, Right handed, and a guitar strung right handed lefty. How can he keep it all straight?
In fact, he's a lefty that can play a righty instrument lefty far better than most righties can play a righty instrument!
Say that three times really fast!
