Small Holes in back of Kluson tuning pegs

Post by bubbasweet »

Are these small holes in the back of the Kluson Deluxe tuneing pegs for oil or grease for lubrication of the peg? If so which type of oil or grease do you use and how much? I assume a drop or 2.. Other than smoth turning what was this for?

My tech teacher says 3-1 in the blue bottle, rather than the normal red one. Not sure why, and its much more difficult to find.

Speed holes------for lightning fast solos. :)

Yeah, they are for lubrication. To date, I don't think I've ever lubricated a kluson tuner---I should join in the fun!

I used a syringe (cut down to about 4mm) to pump some grease into the klusons of my 1980 330 which were at the point of grinding rather than turning. It definitely did the trick and they now feel smooth to turn.
Used a red grease from work....goes nice with Burgundyglo. :D

Grease makes more sense than oil. Folks with an oil can in their hand can't help but overdo it. I've pulled the guards off more than one Rick and found a slick of oil between the guard and the body, from people overlubing the pots.

That red grease is the nutz. Wish I could remember the name. I've got a clock oiler.

I like FTI's Tetra Synthetic grease...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
