325C58 / Trapeze?

Post by bill_yantz »

Will a trapeze tailpiece fit on the existing Vibrola end bracket?

It just won't stay in tune with the Vibrola and I am not sure I want to put the B5 on it right now. I think the trapeze will be a more stable tailpiece and the guitar will stay in tune better. I use Pyramid 13s.

Thanks in advance for any and all comments.

Yes, the trapeze will fit on the Vibrola end bracket. No mods needed.

yes, I do. I had a trapeze on my 325c58 for a few weeks while my bigsby was being modified. It fits right over the vibrola end bracket. 20 bucks plus shipping. Send me email if you are interested. [email protected] thanks

Bear in mind that the Kauffman can be immobilized, acting just like a trapeze but retaining the original appearance. It's just a matter of removing the Kauffman's cover, placing the assembly on a metal surface like the typical anvil area of a vise, and giving the central axle rivet a tap or two with a ball peen hammer.

Unlike the originals, the modern Kauffmans have a stainless steel aircraft rivet that's quite durable so it's difficult to make a mistake and damage it in this process.

I've pinned a number of units this way and it works like a charm.

Thanks John for the info on pinning the Kaufman. I think it will be of interest to others as well. I am going to take Mike up on his offer and keep the Kaufman functional. But, if Mike's wasn't available, I would pin it.

Hi, Bill. You I just sent you an email about the trapeze. I like the idea of pinning the kaufman, too. They do look so cool!

The tailpiece on my refinished Capri is pinned, it hasn't budged, so it works. I don't mind the look of the trapeze on a C58, even though this:

isn't your regular run of the mill C58, you get the idea, it looks pretty nice and works well with a string with no problem.

Nick, you are truly blessed, no doubt.

If you had to choose one between the two for tuning stability, which would it be , the Kaufman pinned or the Trapeze?

Thanks for everyones' responses, its very much appreciated.

They both work great, it's going to depend on whether or not you can deal with the arm being in your way, if you're not going to put the trapeze on.

As far as my C58 12 string guitars go, they are gems and I'm very thankfull to Mr. Hall for making it happen. There are only 3 of them in the world, I have two and Henry McGuinn has the other one.

Very very cool guitars Nick.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Nick, do the tunners perform adequetly on the C58 12-string? I have been considering a newer 330/12 and wonder if the tuners could be changed without much modification. Seeing your 12-string makes me wonder if the RicTites would be a good mod.

BTW, I have removed the arm on the Kaufman as it gets in the way, as you know. I am going to go with the Trapeze however, thanks.

I don't think the Ric-Tite is available from the factory, it's the same as the flat back PU on the 325C58, there is no way to order it. I just about freaked when I opened the box and saw those tuners on the headstock, effing cool! This 12 string is an amazing guitar, it has the thickness of the C58 neck and is quite easy to play, it even has the right heel too. Easier to play than the 325/12V63s that were issued in '99. With the factory strings on it, it was plug and play, it sounds like the Byrds all the way. I'm wondering if being made from maple has anything to do with it's perfect tone. Henry's guitar is made from alder, it is a 3 pick-up FG model with 2 'oclock f hole. I should give hima call and ask what he thinks of his.

Besides, why change the tuners on a 330/12, they sell a lot of those guitars without any BS, it's good guitar on its own right out of the box.
