McGuinn's 1978 sound

Hi, all:

I just spent this weekend listening to a couple of 1978 CDs-- "Doin Alright for Old People" and the "Bottom Line" concerts with Gene Clark. I really like the sound of Roger's 12-string Rickenbacker !!! It seems like there is a great deal of "jingle-jangle" that is really BRIGHT!!!! Now, I love my Janglebox 2-- but, I really like Roger's sound back then, too!!!

Listen to the intro on "Knocking on Heaven's Door" and "Chestnut Mare" ("Doin' Alright...) and hear the chimes.

Does anyone know WHAT Roger was using for an amp, etc????

hmmm....I'll have to hunt up the CDs.

Roger was probably using a solid state amp at that time. I know he used the Roland JC-120 in later years - probably still does. I saw McGuinn/Clark live in '78 or '79 but no electric guitars were used during that show. There's a live recording out there of a solo performance around that time and he mentions - while tuning up between songs - that he's using two compressors in his live rig.I assume that they were MXR Dynacomp pedals (or maybe Ross)...
