I thought this was an interesting article. Jimmy Johnson is the current guitar tech for Styx. He has worked with many of the biggest acts in rock, including many years with Rush:

Re: Rush/Styx Guitar Tech Article
very interesting article ! a must read. in the '80's, it was hard to trust anybody with my gear as i was very "tech savy" myself, i used to set up my whole band,pa and lighting before the show. people would talk to me as a roadie...then be shocked when i walked on stage a half hour later playing with the particular band ! it's nice to find someone who you can trust 100% and not have to hold their hand.
kudos to jimmy j. !

Great read. He also echos what Russ Ryan (Geddy's tech) wrote about on another forum - about cranky rock stars. Just say 'no.'

i had first dibs as russ ryan was my tech before he moved on to rush. he was totally professional and did not have to hold his hand even after the "initiation" i gave him the first night on our tour bus !
