Nah, Ged and Alex were just feeling like they needed the extra necks to keep up with Neil's drums...

Great vid, thanks for posting it!
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Good one! I saw them on that tour, the one they put out "Exit, Stage Left" from. I think it was one of their best.

Indeed! I think the double necks were simply a necessity to deliver the song to the best of their ability. A lot of different moods and timbres going on in that tune for three guys to deliver!

Very few songs are so B.A. that they require two doublenecks!

I guess the question is: How come nobody writes em like "By-tor and the Snowdog" no more? :)

Yes, a rather gratuitous display on Xanadu, but that's what it took, no?

As for By-Tor, I'd have to agree. That bit on All the World's a Stage after Lifeson's chordal buildup where they break into the guitar solo; Geddy's bass and bass part just sound so fantastic.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

i have personal pics from '77 when they played moncton of the 4080 showing the gibson humbucker mod on the 12 string side. tried to upload but pic was too big. will send to jps. there is a book called "rush, success under pressure" by steve gett and cherry lane books c.1984 that i have (but can't post pics due to permission rights), that has some great shots of the 4080 ,"white tail" his '73 4001, and "black tail" his current 4001 and his 3001 in the dressing room. "white or black tail" signifies the plastic surround on the badarse 1 bridge mod on the 4001 basses. the 4080 got a badarse 1 and black tail.

Gee, a 12-string played with lots of distortion doesn't even sound like a twelve - whooda thunk?
