BYPASSING THE "CAP"?????

OK BOYS!!! My new 4001C64S lacks the b**ls that my old C64S has. I didn't pay enough attention when Jeff(JPS) did it. HELP HELP HELP!! How do I do it???

Rick, there are three caps in the control cavity. Find the one marked .0047 µf. It will be attached to the treble volume control at one end. use a short piece of jumper wire and solder it to each of the leads of the cap, bypaaing the cap entirely.

Oh. It sounded like you did do it but messed something up!

Locate the .0047µf cap that is the smallest in physical size to the other two caps that are the tone control caps. All you need to do is connect (solder) a piece of wire across the leads coming out of either end of the cap to bypass it. No need to remove the cap at all, this way it is very easy to undo the bypass. In the photo you will note a red wire that is across the .0047µf cap on my old FG 4001.

That might be the best of both worlds for you, but for me the best of both worlds is to never hear the cap in the circuit again. 20 years of it was WAY more than I ever wanted, and almost caused me to abandon my beloved Rick in favor of some inferior brand.

I do think it was good of RIC to come up with the push/pull pot idea for those who want it. I just don't want it!

Well, it depends on how you play and which pickup you favor (if either). The cap significantly reduces the bass response on the bridge pickup. I play mostly (and sometimes entirely) through the bridge pickup so for me it's a huge deal. It's like the difference between hearing my bass through a bass amp, and hearing my bass through a megaphone.
