Welcome, Jon. I'm, also here in northern Cali. Hope to meet you and some of the other locals at a confluence someday.

Well, did we scare off yet another newcomer with our overwhelming warmth?

Thank you all very much! Those pics from the SoCal Confluence were killer--wish I'd been there! If there's ever one in the Bay Area, I'll definitely go. You just can't find Rickenbackers just anyoldwhere, and that's always been true. When I was a teenager in the '60's in San Francisco, hanging out at Sherman & Clay and Don Wehr's Music City, nobody had Ricks in stock. Fenders, Gibsons, even Voxes, yes, but no Ricks. I'd see guys playing them, but where were they buying them? Nowhere I was, that's for sure! Regarding the old 381--I knew the pickups weren't causing the choking-out problem, that was the fretboard radius. I didn't like the Hi-Gain pickups in that guitar--they made it sound like it was trying to be a Gibson, and I wanted it to sound like a Rickenbacker. I've played a few Ricks that were incredible--a good one will twang like a Telecaster but with the warmth of a hollowbody. I'm planning to go to the upcoming vintage show in San Rafael next month--maybe there'll be a nice one there, but with my luck I won't be able to afford it! Last year, I ran into absolutely the best-playing 360-12 I've ever played, but it was a refin and the guy wanted way too much money for it. Kira--I'm in Vallejo, probably not too awfully far from Marin, depending on where you are in Marin County.
