Who Am I #76

Post by admin »

This most beautiful and melodic of yuletide tunes is From Kris Lyons

Who Am I #76

In keeping with the season, who is it?
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I have no idea who it is even though the voice is hauntingly familiar. This is indeed a beautiful Christmas song.

Clue #1 - You're looking for a group here, rather than an individual.

Not We Five.

Clue #2 - Together for 28 years, this band is still playing and recording with the same founding members.

Well since everyone else appears to have abandoned us..
I claim no credit for this at all, never heard of the song or the band, but that's what the Internet's for :D
The Spongetones.
And I'm afraid you'll all have to wait until Sunday afternoon (my time) for my submission...

Spongetones are a new one on me. I too searched the clues but didn't come up with them. It's a really lovely song.

Yuletunes is a very nice Christmas CD (compilation) for those enjoyed this song.

Jamie Hoover (of the Spongetones) owns a 325 that is believed to be V82, V83 or V84.

The Spongestones are a great band live. Beat and Tom is a great intro to the band, if you are so moved.

Nick got it right. It is indeed the SpongeTones. If you've never heard them, I invite you to pick up one of their CDs. The band was formed in 1981 as a Beatles tribute band, and there is nothing by the Beatles they can't play well. As I said, they have 12 albums out (can be found on the Not Lame Records, CD Baby and Amazon sites) of original material. Beat and Torn is a reissue of their first album, Beat Music, and the follow up EP Torn Apart. This is Power Pop with a British Invasion flavor all the way. Other great albums by them are Oh Yeah!, Textural Drone Thing and Odd Fellows.

Based out of Charlotte, North Carolina, they are great fun to see live. If you're in the Charlotte area, do yourself a favor and try to catch one of their live shows. Jamie, Steve, Pat and Rob will not disappoint you - guaranteed.

BTW, besides the Yuletunes CD Todd mentioned, the SpongeTones also have a Christmas CD that the song Christmasland is on. It;s called Mersey Christmas, and has a bunch of fun and interesting things on it. The Little Wiped Out Drummer Boy has to be heard to be believed - The Little Drummer Boy done to the beat of Wipe Out!

I'm with Kira; never heard of the SpongeTones. I would have guessed the Incredible String Band, perhaps.
