There’s the definitive answer as to why they don’t want to sell individual songs online...

The ironic thing about Norah Jones being on the list is her Beatles connection.. through her father. Remote connection, yes, but still, ironic all things considered. She is a great artist though and I agree, the only other name on the list that is worth a darn.

Oh, I dunno ... I'm not at all a rap fan but I'll put in a nod to Eminem. He has stood above his peers and provided some intelligent and amusing entertainment, IMHO. Satirical and a little hard to digest like Zappa or Insane Clown Posse, but I found some of his stuff well worth knowing. YMMV
All I wanna do is rock!

Re: BEATLES HAVE BIGGEST SELLING ALBUM OF THE DECADE
Those numbers are for the US only.
World wide sales for The Beatles 1 is approaching 32 million. No other CD comes close during the same time period (Linkin Park is next with 24 million.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_be ... _worldwide
Due to the massive number of returns of Michael Jackson’s Thriller album, the method for accounting for record sales was changed from wholesale shipments to distributors, to retail sales in 1983. Fraud by Epic to give MJ the biggest selling record of all time resulted in as many as 50% of that albums shipments being returned to the record company for credit, after they were counted, of course. That, and other common manipulations, such as Capitol’s use of Beatles albums as kickbacks to high volume retailers (which resulted in the Beatles legal settlement with EMI which is now preventing the release of the Beatles catalog to iTunes, etc.) means that it is almost impossible to determine actual sales-to-date for albums released prior to 1983.

I think it's worrysome that Coldplay seem to be dismissed so easily by people who consider themselves to be openminded music fans. Furthermore, Eminem has done some good stuff... there's more than plain rock!mikharr123 wrote: She is a great artist though and I agree, the only other name on the list that is worth a darn.
Last article I read Mariah Carey had more #1's than Elvis and the Beatles combined... which made me worry about how they actually determine these lists - we've got a couple of hitlists in Holland and some songs reach top 10 in one and won't even reach top 50 in the other, I think that says it all...

In the US Mariah Carey has the most # of weeks at #1, but not the most #1 singles. She’s second behind the Beatles, followed by Elvis. The Beatles robbed themselves of this distinction by on several occasions having one single displace another at #1, or releasing double A side singles, which resulted in #1 & #2 positions, where Mariah never released a double A side single.

Worldwide there is no question The Beatles are far ahead of anyone else…

The Beatles had sold over 500 million records by 1972! Elvis only reached that number after he died in 1977 and his songs were licensed to every aggregator on the planet.
Also, both The Beatles and Elvis box sets were, and still are, counted as a single unit sale, when they contained as many as 15 LPs, or 20 singles. So their numbers would be much higher if each of these albums or singles were counted individually. And don’t get me started on counterfeit and bootleg sales worldwide...
This also doesn’t take in to account the Beatles individual careers, with McCartney alone having sold over 100 million units since 1970. It’s estimated that all told the four Beatles combined account for worldwide legitimate sales of over 1.5 billion.

When you've been to High School like me, you learn those names. Oddly enough, there were (and probably still are since I've left) some kids at my high school who didn't know or hated The Beatles and preferred The Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, rap and other stupid forms of music. There were a small handfull of students who like the music that we forumites like, and I hung out with them. They were the Talented Theatre group, who the bulk of my closest friends were.

As my wife says to me "there's no getting about it." But in reviewing the list. I'm glad I'm getting old.
Re: BEATLES HAVE BIGGEST SELLING ALBUM OF THE DECADE
The Beatles will continue to break records (no pun intended) long after those of us who saw them on Ed Sullivan, the first time around, are gone. I wish they were all around to enjoy these moments together.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

There's something wrong with those stats--where's Slim Whitman

I dunno guys. Out of the singles the OneRebuplic song is pretty good and the Coldplay song is an incredible song in a live setting. The Jason Mraz song is cute but it got on my nerves a year ago.
