UPS is Going to be the Death of Me....

Peter....my apologies for crossing the etiquette line. The point of my post was not to publicly criticize UPS. In the title I was trying to think of something witty and keep my own thoughts as positive as possible while I waited. While there are always exceptions to the rule, the people I know employed by UPS all work very hard and are as conscientious as humanly possible. One of our drummers drives a brown truck and has told me that he pretends every package he delivers is one he personally sent. That's one of my favorite examples of someone "Doing unto others...."

All that said, thanks for your gentle (as always) prompting to be careful in my choice of words.....

PS--ditto your comments re Brown, FedEx, DHS, and USPS--I've had good experiences and the occasional hiccup from all of them, but the percentages are way in the "plus" column.

There can be no greater frustration after waiting for a parcel than to see it arrive in a compromised state. There is surely value for the receiver in photographic documentation and in understanding how to make the best out of a difficult situation.

That being said, such complaints are seen by the companies identified and they come to demand that threads be removed, not infrequently with some clout. While many people may comment, at the end of the day these parties want to have a response, not from the shipper, not from the receiver, not from those who share in the horror and comment on the injustice of it all, but from admin.

When there are documenting pictures and an unemotional explanation of the damage done by the shipper, I do not understand how they would have a leg to stand on in trying to squelch a thread. If this is their MO, then they should work on fixing their handling of packages and not send the lawyers after forum admins. Add to that the packages left at the door that required a signature....

Add to this experience, albeit with a happy ending, the recent 1965 JG that had the neck broken off, and the people we pay really good money and entrust our precious cargo to need to reexamine how they move/handle said packages.

Me too. I only ship to my work now as someone is there to receive/sign.

All I can say is that I have had had virtually no problems using good ol' USPS. And I live in Guam. The private company you refer to has not been consistent at all in handling my goods. I would suggest USPS insured to get the shipping job done.

I believe the Rickenbacker corp site has a thread about this as well.

Its a rare box jellyfish they attach themselves to soggy cardboard and have a nasty sting.

Me too. I only ship to my work now as someone is there to receive/sign.

Thirded. I found a bass for a friend, he purchased it and had it shipped 'Signature Required' and discovered it on his back porch when he let his cat out one evening. At least they didn't leave it on the front porch, considering it was a replacement for one that was stolen.

Here, in Montana, Next door to the Middle of Nowhere, Bob, the UPS guy just brings it into the house if we're not around. Same thing with Terri for Fed-Ex...
