Yeah, I still have it. Bought it when I was 16 for $200.

Bill- that 77 4001s whitey is sweet! Did it come with the white pickguard and truss cover?

No it didn't. I special ordered the bass in Aug. of '77 and they would only ship it with the black trc & pg so I ordered the white versions at the same time. Everything came at the same time in December of '77. It's still my favorite bass although I primarily play 5 string now.

Jaymi, you,ve got to be careful here we have an inordinate amount of pick players, it's a little known psychological abberation which usually only affects older Ric bass players. It is called "The Chris Squire Effect".

I use a pick once in a while for certain styles but if I had to rely solely on my pickplaying I'd be relegated to playing full time in my bedroom.
I respect certain pick players because they are so good at it, for example Peter Cetera of Chicago is an unbelievable PP.

I actually learned to use a pick from my very first bass lesson. The instructor told me if I wanted to play jazz get an upright and learn with your fingers. If you want to play Pop or R&R learn to use a pick like Carol Kaye.

He even told me that if I didn't believe him I could go upstairs after the lesson and listen to the top 20, on 45rpm listening stations, and I would either hear an upright or an electric played with a pick.

Bob you are so right about Peter Cetera, I grew up listening to them here in the midwest and even playing some of the same summer festivals as they did.

I wonder what he would have sounded like on a Ric through those Acoustic 360's?
Anyway gorgeous pick playing/tone indeed.

Oh, Steve...I have an acoustic 360 setting in my bass pod pro and OH MY!!!! I love it....I got this 73 4000 in the mail today......ooooooohhhhh....I am dying here.....

I gravitate towards the 360 setting on my Pod XT Pro all the time, I was really commenting on what Peter Cetera would have sounded like with his masterful technique.

Then again the Dual Showman setting, the AC100, The Hi-Watts, it really is fun running through the presets and changing amps on the fly especially monitoring through studio monitors at home.

I suppose one would really need one of those AccuGroove's or some such monitor type that had accurate highs and lows to really pull off the subtle nuances live though.

I know there are those here that use them all the time live but I have heard three different players (must be stone tone deaf idiots) but the all changed there setting for every song and by the end of the night each of them had about three tones one could perceive as different. I ran through the settings on a couple of the Pods and there were large differences in the settings but they just didn't come across well live through a bass amp. They used Ampeg, Ashdown, and Eden respectively.

Love them in the studio but they should go straight to the board with a good sound person for live. No stage rumble then either just a bass only monitor on stage, or in-ears.

I use the Bass POD 1 ... I use the 360 settings a lot ... with compression, distortion, and cabinet modeling ... it kicks butt!!!!

The presets on POD 1 are useless ... but my saved patches are awesome ...

I used to play through a real acoustic 360 ... good amp ... and then a 370 cab with a peavey head and a crossover and a cab for high end ... it was a 7' tall rig and it was awesome ... a lot of work to move though ...

I used to have a 370 with 2 (two) 4x15 cabs, they were model number 408. They were Awesome..it was like moving appliances when the show was over though. My old Ricks sound huge through them. I downsized about 3 years ago and it just is not the same.
