I guess I'm as involved in the whole kids thing as anyone else...

It's a tough call whether to push or not to push. What I do is to ask my son what his goals are, and tell him if that's what he wants, then I will have to push him to reach his goal. No different than a football coach, or his science teacher I guess. I do think the difference in what I see(or what we can't see) in these videos is that we don't know how the kids really feel. Even though a 12 year old can speak his mind better than a four year old, kids still want to please their parents. I'm 48 and continue to try and make my parents happy.

With that in mind, I tell my son that to me, he is already a rock star, and he has nothing to prove. My views are prejudice of course, but when I see these videos, I realize that maybe my son doesn't have the chops on a particular instrument that these kids have,BUT his genuine love for all types of music, and his creative ability would be matched by few of them.
