What do you make of this one?

Post by ilan »

1999 v63 FG, listed as a C64. Could be a bargain. From the description: "The neck seems straight. but It seems little bit bent around the body to neck. so, when It tuned up, the strings are high from the fret, especially high position." Could it be the infamous delamination?

Anyway here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 500wt_1182

I think it needs the truss rods adjusted. Looks like it hasn't had the best of care and my guess is it never had the neck adjusted or maybe done properly.

Probably some bad tweaks of the rods. Maybe can be adjusted out. Personally, I like the 'well used' look. Make you proud to gig it.

A look under the TRC would be a good idea.

If he had said the action was high, I'd assume the rods need adjustment. But he describes a straight neck that lifts at the neck-body joint when the bass is tuned to pitch, which to me sounds like what happens when the (straight) neck starts to separate from the body wings at the heel. Tweaking the rods can't cure that. And re-gluing the body wings is not easy (or cheap, or fast) to do properly on a Fireglo, and could require a refin to hide the repair.

Sold for $1,091. Very low for a v63. Probably the neck issues and/or shipping cost from Australia.
