It has been a while... now looking for a Ric again !!!

Post by turlu »

It has been a while since I posted in this Forum.

I have not played with my V63 for close to two years now and I can sense the urge to get another Ric bass !!!! I have gigged exclusively with my Lakland DJ4 ( which is a great bass BTW too !!! ) but now I feel like I need to go back to my Ric roots !!!

Anything new coming out from Ric in the near future that would help me choose a new Bass ??

Are the new necks really that thinner ???

Let me know and happy new year all !!!!

Very good post...

I bought a week 42 JG 4003 - my return to Ric.

Seeing mine, a bass-playing friend is now gassing for a Ric!

I've seen a couple for him - a mid-2009 (2-piece neck, same as mine?) and a Jan 2009 (older style?)

I've scared him of stories of my others.....and TBH, the January build has scared him a bit...are they that big? I had a 4004 and that was massive!

Welcome back, Stephane.
I'm sure you would be very pleased with the profile of the recent 4003 necks.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Welcome back Stephane.

Depending on the year of your V63, the new necks will be near the same or thinner fretboard to back of neck. The V63s from the 80s to '91/92 are slim, where the later ones are more thicker. The new 2-piece necks are said to be like the thinner ones from the 70s and 80s.

Seek one out, give it a spin, and see what you think. If you are not near a RIC dealer, maybe a forumite in your area can lend a hand in trying one.

Thanks for the replies.

Any new model ahead for Bass in the near future ???? Since the C64 series is out, no colour of the year and no artist model, anything new and refreshing from Ric ???

We are hoping for news of a C64 replacement during NAMM, something along the lines of the RM1999s they made for the Japanese market. But you never know and nothing has been said except for Ben Hall's tease about wowing us all.

Yeah, me too. I'm really wondering what the surprise could be...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

What was so awful about your first Rics? You can PM me if you'd rather not share aloud. I just don't remember you ever complaining about anything being wrong.

Early 2009s like mine have big necks but they're aren't profiled like a 4004 (I've played three 2008 4004Ciis... loved 'em all). The 4003 neck profile from early 2009 is more of a C shape while the 4004 profile tends to be a bit more... uh... ovoid? It's both thicker and shallower. Frankly I think the 4004 neck profile plays like butter, but I adore my 4003 for its huge beefy tone. It's definitely the "meanest" of my three Rics. Still, I keep threatening to grab a Cii. My wife is going to murder me some day after an impulsive Ric-purchase and you guys won't be hearing from me any more...
