2010 Need help

Post by raider »

First of all happy new year to every one on this board now lets get on to
guitars. As I said in another post I'll be buying a new guitar this year and
here are the guitars that I'm looking at. The 330 Rickenbacker in Fireglo
a Parker Fly Artist from 1997 in Red which was a custom color. Next is a
Gretsch Country Classic Junior 6122JR in Walnut or Orange a PRS
Standard 24 in Whale Blue, and the last one is the new Fender American
Standard in Natural or Crimson Red 8) Today I was talking to a friend and
he is the one with the 330 Rickenbacker a few weeks ago he wanted $1000.00
for the Rickenbacker now he has come down to $ 800.00 so should I buy it or
pass on it :?: I have played it and it sounds good thru my Twin Reverb I have
also played the Parker and that sounds good also thru my amp and my other
friend has that guitar. As far as the Gretsch and the PRS a collector who buys
and sells guitars has those and the Gretsch is on hold and both of them are $1299.00
and the Parker is $ 1600.00. As I said I need so help so what do you think :!: :!:

That's a wide variety of guitars, and from my understanding, you're looking to buy one guitar this year, among those you list.

A Rickenbacker 330 for $800 is a very good deal. To me, it's a no-brainer. It seems though, with that variety (330 vs PRS vs Parker, especially), whatever you get you may find something lacking in it that you'll think one of the other guitars does better.

Of all those guitars, if I found a Rickenbacker for $800 and it was in good shape, that would be the guitar for me. If its price were $1100 or up, and the other guitars were really on my wish list, it would be a tougher decision. But then, I'm very price-conscious (i.e. stingy :) ) and that may not be the deal-maker in your case.

I agree, depending on the shape it's in - if you think it's decent looking and it works fine and plays okay, then 800 USD is a fine price!

Yep, exactly! +1! Great price.

If I had a spare $800, I'd buy it myself, and that's not even my model or color!

If he's a good friend, I'd let him know that while you're happy to take it for $800, he might do better on CL or ebay. (if he isn't aware of it's higher value).

There's a clown on eBay who's been trying to get more than that for a stripped bodyshell!

Although adding 1000 to the price wouldn't make it so much of a bargain anymore! :P

Guys there is nothing wrong with my friends 330 when he bought the guitar he had to bring
it back because it needed some work. I did find out why he is selling the guitar he needs the
money to buy drums for his wife. He is playing out this week so he will still need the guitar
till next weekend. He asked me if I wanted to trade guitars for a week to see if I really wanted
the 330 the guitar that I have now is a G&l Asat Classic. I thought about the other guitars that
I listed and the PRS is out and I think the Gretsch will be gone so that leaves only two the 330
Rickenbacker and the Parker Fly Artist. If I had the money I would buy both yet I can only get
one and I was wondering does anyone here use there Rickenbacker for (Rockabilly Music) :?:
I know the Rickenbacker sounds great for 60's music but I'm not sure about the Parker and
the other thing is this if I were to buy the Rickenbacker I could go back to the music store
and buy the Toaster Pickups and have them put in  So there where I am at this
point 8)
