How many 381V69 guitars were made during the 60s ??

And, when were the first 12 string versions made ?

They would be designated 381. The V69 referes to the reissues. I believe the 381 was first released in '69 so my guess is that the numbers would be low since there is only one year.

There is a bit of info on the 381 model in the Smith book, pages 178-179. Bottom line is that (apparently) there was not an original 381-12, even though RIC "re-issued" it. But I would not be surprised if an "original" 381-12 has surfaced. The 6-strings were first made in the late '50s (very few) and then from 1968 through 1974. The reissues (first 6-strings, then 12ers) were made starting in 1987.

Ron is correct. My '68 is way different than any other that I've seen.

Wow, that's cool!

I'm going to have to get the rest of my Rick headstocks bound, because I'm so used to playing my two main guitars with bound headstocks that the other ones are starting to look really odd to me. I't s not in the budget in the moment, but as soon as I have the $... :D
