Mr. Blue

Post by lyle_from_minneapolis »

Here's a new one that came together pretty quickly. Any comments or crits are welcome. Thanks for listening!

Mr. Blue

See him standing on the lane
Laughing sadly in the rain
But what's a broken man to do
Mr. Blue
Mr. Blue

Bad things happen all the time
You believe you've lost your mind
But when a good thing comes to you
Mr. Blue
Mr. Blue

You can turn away the shadow
Let the sunlight color you
There's a love for every loser
Mr. Blue

A woman wanders by the bay
Wants to throw herself away
And when she stumbles into you
Mr. Blue
Mr. Blue

You can turn away the shadow
Let the sunlight color you
There's a love for every loser
Mr. Blue

Mr. Blue
Mr. Blue

You can turn away the shadow
Let the sunlight color you
There's a love for every loser
Mr. Blue

Great work here.

For some reason before I even heard the track, the song title made me think of ELO, and the song isn't a million miles away from their work either, which I hope you take as a complement as it's intended that way.
And as usual, great vocals and musicianship on show.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Mateybob! Well, ELO had the song "Mr. Blue Skies". You know, this song didn't exist three days ago...I felt like recording something so I started with a beat, then added some piano, then just hacked away until it turned into something. So after it was done, I realized there must be another song with that phrase somewhere, so I Googled "Mr. Blue" and found the exact same title for different songs by The Fleetwoods, Joni Mitchell and Garth Brooks. Oh well. Might have to change it to "Kangaroo".

Appreciate the listen. Cheers! -mk

Sounds good Mark... keep it Mr Blue.. there is probably enough Mr Blue to go 'round for everyone. Plus "There's a love for every loser
Kangaroo"

just doesn't seem to work for me.... but what do I know.

I immediately was pulled in by that bassline; nice! I dug the vamp of the piano & the melodies. Nice hang on the feedback of that guitar solo - cool little sonic sprinklers here & there... Great stuff per your usual! My only anal critique is that I would have liked to hear a slower fade out; it was kind of abrupt on this mix. Petty, I know, but I'm a petty, petty man.

Mr. L_F_M,
Great vocal melody; after the first verse line "But when a good thing comes to you," I thought the next to short lines of "Mr. Blue" would follow that same elongated vocal phrasing. It's what would have come naturally, at least in my head. Your lowered singing tone of "Mr. Blue" surprised me, but sounded good. When I first heard the vocal arrangement the band Steely Dan came to mind. I hope that sounds like a compliment. A couple seconds later that sound I heard changed, and here's the biggest compliment I may have ever given any other forum brother in any of the forums I frequent...I began to think of this as a song I would have heard the 90s band Jellyfish do. They were great musicians and better singers. I don't know if you know them, but that is high praise...good work friend...
