Which Amp Should I purchase? I need your input guys..

Post by pesimax »

hey guys dig this!

Normally I play though a Fender Blues Deville (which is too loud/heavy for my gigging as i don't drive) and it's great but too loud, but I fancied a nice lightweight 15-30 watt amp.

Well, I was taking in my 64' rickenbacker 365 to my local luthier for a set up, he works in the local guitar store and they had two new guitar heads in stock. a ORANGE DUAL TERROR and a VOX NIGHT TRAIN. I need to know what you guys think of these amps, they both sound pretty good, the orange has more warmth and foot switchable channels...also it's 30 watt! But the vox sparkles and has a good thick channel. I don't play metal or heavy rock, I like overdrive but I'm into Garage Rock/Mod/Psych sounds...Come on guys throw me a bone

All the best

Go with Traynor -you'll get the best of both (I found the Vox and Orange to be one-trick ponies).

+1

The small Vox/Orange heads are pure overdriven rock/blues amps.

I'd say something smaller, portable and versatile is better, like an AC-15, Fender Vibrolux, or even the incredibly good Laney Lionheart combos (http://www.laney.co.uk/show_prod.php?prod=l5t-112 I highly recommend checking out these killer tube combos.

i like the looks of the lion heart 20 watt head! I wish i could get the mesa, but it's way out of my price range. My reasoning for the Night train was more ease to go to gigs, I go everywhere by train and bus. But the other guitarist in my band has a spare cab, i have a marshall 4 x 12 at home so i wasn't planning to go for a combo.

It may be too small for you, but have you tried a Vox Pathfinder? 15 watts Solid State that can't be beat for versatility and portability.

Hey, I love the Pathfinder, i've got a 15r, but that's taken up with the Combo Organ. That was one of the reason's why i was thinking of the night train.

I have a 15R too and I love it. It seems to do everything well. And it's cheap enough to afford two or three of 'em.

I'd grab it at that price. If I had to carry an amp on public transportation this would be the one.

What kind of amp?

I've always liked John Lennon's take on that question, "One that works". :D

Personally, I'd take the Vox. Pathfinder is a good little amp.

The TA15 is not that much more than the Night Train but far more versatile. I tried one out at NAMM, and intend to buy one (I was originally planning to get the NT). I also prefer the fact that the TA15 is made in the USA vs. the Chinese made NT.
