Upsurge in RRF Membership ?

Post by 8mileshigher »

Hope this "General" forum is the correct location for this inquiry ....

A question to Peter --- is there a noticeable uptick in new members signing up for the RRF here in January, or is it just my imagination, when checking the chronological listing of when Members joined ?? Looks like January has seen steady numbers of new members day in and day out .....

Do you keep statistics on monthly sign-ups ?
Do you notice any trend in this regard or do "sign ups" tend to even itself out over the year (s) ??

Is there any scientific basis for understanding the upsurge --- are Rics growing with massive popularity ?? Is the backlog increasing "demand" and therefore fueling growth in enthusiasts circles like the RRF ?? (i.e. Your new Ric won't come for 20-24 months, but you can join the RRF in the meantime and commiserate with others in a supportive group-therapy environment !)

Or I wonder if all the pictures that RRF-ers post of beautiful instruments, restoration projects, helpful hints, You Tube performances and having fun Jam sessions and Confluences is increasing Ric awareness ? :D

Any thoughts or views ?

Rich: Thanks for your interesting questions which all generated much enthusiasm for me and I hope others.

Yes there is an increase in memberships, often during the winter months in the Northern Hemisphere when routines are changed and many people are encouraged to go inside to avoid the cold. I have noticed an increased trend in the fall and winter.

I would also like to think that our posts about Rickenbackers and our Registration of instruments has peaked the interest of new members who may not have seen the RickResource Forum before.

The Forum has now in its 10th year with our discussions surround Rickenbackers having its roots in alt.guitar.rickenbacker which we embarked upon 13 years ago. Time flies when yu are having fun.

I hope that our CD3 will also get the attention it deserves as Mark Walker weaves his magic once again.

I also consider the the Confluences and outstanding quality of posts made by many members who have been here for a decade has attracted some attention. Thanks to the "old gang" who have made such a solid contribution and to the "new wave" who I hope will carry on the tradition.

My deepest appreciation goes out to all those who continue to contribute with the goal in mind of simply fostering goodwill when it comes to Rickenbackers and related music.

I spotted 'peaked' where I think Peter meant 'piqued'. I think that makes it a 'heterograph' according to the above diagram.

Hmmm..... 'nyms', 'phones', 'graphs', 'homos' and 'heteros'.

I'm confused but there's no way I'm going back to school to study this sort of jazz at my age!!

Yes, I thought "piqued" but wrote "peaked." Thanks for the correction. I can use all the help I can get.

Piqued--A state of vexation caused by a perceived slight or indignity; a feeling of wounded pride. How about "...has ignited the interest..."?

Joe: Ignited certainly works. I love your thought and interpretation, however, and thank you for your comment. In passing piqued also means to provoke or arouse.

Apparently, in French, to pique means to literally ***** something. So one's interest would be pricked or brought to attention.
