Fender IPhone or whatever it is

Post by atomic_punk »

Apologies if this has been posted before....but....

Does this new Fender IPhone and the hawking of it by Eric Clapton make anyone else throw up in their mouth a little bit?

I guess it's remembering a day when people didn't sell out. I know that day was a LONG time ago and now, every soul and song has a price, but it just seems that this one is a little "ultra-cheesy" to me.

Anyone else?

Next thing you know, Fender Custom Shoppe  will be hawking a road warrior version, with scuff marks and battle scars and Clapton's own cheek dialing worn spots ...

Will they be displaying these Fender phones at Hard Rock Cafe's next ??

Does Clapton really need the money   or does he think being a stooge for advertising agencies in his way of paying dues, to be able to play the Blues ??

Ok first off let me just say that im not defending or endorsing this phone, because I truely am not, when my daughter saw this phone , being the sweet and loving daughter she is, she thought of me and to try and do something nice and to show me how much she appreciated me she called me and asked me if I had seen it and that she wanted to by it for me, and I told her I appreciate the offer and love her for the thought, but no I really dont want it or need it, first I still have my razor phone from 6 years ago.

For me Its a phone and a phone only and thats all I use it for. I dont need to access the internet, or download music, or movies and video, its a phone and thats all. Personally I think they have gone to far with cell phones and all the things you can do with them, I dont need all that stuff, I just need a phone to make and receive calls with.

But I'm willing to bet the house, that if this was the Rickenbacker I-Phone, well this thread would be totally different, people would be going insane over it like they do when ever they spot a Rickenbacker guitar or bass on tv or in a magazine add, and if it were Chris Squire or Rodger Mcgwine or Tom Petty endorsing the Rickenbacker I-Phone, no one on here would be trashing them or calling them a sell out, and trust me im not defending Clapton by no stretch of the imagination. I'm not a huge Eric fan, after all im sure we all would turn down huge endorsement money too.

As I said, I don't intend nor do I have any interest in owning this phone as I turned down my daughter who sweetly offered to by it for me, but at least fender offer items other than instruments for thier customers to enjoy and show thier allegiance to what they like, other than a t-shirt or paper TRC sticker. Does anyone else know where I can get a Rickenbacker hat, or jacket or hoodie or license plate so I could show my allegiance to Rickenbacker, anybody, anybody, Bueller, Bueller, Bueller, Fry, Fry, Fry, in the words of Forest Gump, and thats all I got to say about that..

Kira my dear, how you feeling, I already have the Rickresource stuff from this site, I want just plain Rickenbacker stuff, a hat, jacket , hoodie, sweatshirt, boxer shorts, bedroom slippers, electric train set, Rickenbacker bedding set (twin)Rickenbaker curtains, Rickenbacker grill cover, (that I belive would be a huge seller I personally would buy three) Rickenbacker bar stools and beach chairs, Rickenbacker sunglasses, Rickenbacker sneakers, I know my 4 legged daughter would love to have a Rickenbacker t-shirt for pets (another potential big seller) I can think of a hell of alot more stuff, how about the rest of you fellow formites, what would you ike in this catagory ?

It's a sad state of affairs when consumers will buy any old turd, just because it's polished in a certain way.

Also guilty of dressing my dog better than I dress myself.

Oh, and regarding cheek dialing, that reminds me: dogs have been communicating by way of their rear ends for, oh, just ages.

Definitely not me, and that's the straight truth. It would still be completely ridiculous far-fetched marketing, no matter who's brand-name is on it.

Luckily that's not the reality, and not Rickenbacker's style. While Fender has increasingly tried this stuff for years, Rickenbacker has yet to sell more than a t-shirt or two with a RIC logo (neither of which I've purchased...) as non-musical "brand accessories" over the years.
