Didn't want to write about it before it's done as this would be my millionth "getting an SVT" thread or so...
But what the heck, the deal is indeed done and the seller will deliver it to a friend's brother in Manhattan first thing Monday morning.

very proud of you ! a great score at a great price except you will lose some "private parts" to come up with the shipping !

make sure you set the bias controls properly with a digital multimeter and it will serve you well. get padded cases made, they will protct them from stray uzi rounds !

i've got a '70 and a '78 and they still serve me well. be careful with the polarity switch...if you touch something else metal with a different polarity...lets say a different amp face ...you will get zapped ! that head and the two cabs set up underneath looks just like the front cover of my ampeg owners manual i got with my '78 head .

Ronbo - the shipping is actually pretty cheap... $800 door to door. Taxes are a bit of a nightmare, it can go up to $1,200, depends how much the taxman would agree to drop due to the equipment being "old and used" (I hope he won't know about the vintage factor).

As for getting zapped - are you sure it's the polarity and not the missing 3rd prong for grounding??? I plan on keeping it 110v and feed it through a large transformer, I do plan on replacing the original cable with a 3 prongs cable though.

Brian - Logistics were indeed complicated, especially since the seller didn't want (at first) to get the money wired, but I managed to sort everything out.
Now all I am missing is a REALLY big venue so I could use those 16 speakers

gil...reason it had a polarity switch was the two prong toaster connector. you will have to re-wire the ac path to delete the polarity switch properly. (take a toaster with metal sides...plug it in and feel the sides lightly. if your fingers feel a buzzing feeling, the polarity is reversed. switch the plug around (if it doesn't have the two different size connector ends. the old stuff had the blades the same size ) and feel again . if it doesn't feel buzzy, then the polarity is correct. the reason for the polarity switch on amps was to get rid of noise in the signal path to quiet the amp, but could lead to a dangerous situation of becoming a ground path touching something else at the same time !!! ouch ! i deleted the polarity circuit on my '70 and installed a three prong plug.

Maybe one day i'll get a vintage SVT too, a lot of people say that they are superior in sound quality and power, compared to today's SVTs

I've found a rig like yours here in Italy, but it costs A LOT : 3800 Euros (which is something like 5200$

)
