Hmmm ... more to this than one would have thought.
Working on the price/materials list here from everyone's posted comments:

Alnico stuff price differential
Production time
Scarcity
Demand
Cost per Unit
Out-of-Stock Under Pricing
Mojo Juice Bath (21 days)
Chime Chimney drying treatment
Jangle Injection
Aftermarket Overhype application
Closely Held Trade Secret factor

Anything else missing ? These Toasters are very complex !!

Check out the prices for the high end Gibson PU's. $$$
I think the Toasters are just more in demand in a sellers market, with lack of availability= higher price.
Just my 2 cents

Yep, been shopping for some Burstbuckers to put into a SG:

$196 MSRP
$109 at M.F.
$70 to $100 on ebay

Toasters were not available for a looooooooooooooooog time from the RIC store. Now Hi-gains and HB-1 are in stock now too. :D

In almost two years of watching and waiting I have not seen HB-1's in stock. Get'm while there hot!
