Well, I looked around for that article on Roger getting arrested over that bass and it's gone. Too bad, 'cuz I found it a fun little Rick factoid. It was on Roger's own website under his 'Writings" heading. I found a reference to the article with a link over in the Rick corporate forum, but the it was from 2005 and the link doesn't work anymore. It was written by Roger and I got such a kick out of it that I sent it to a couple of Deep Purple loving friends of mine. Unfortunately I no longer have a copy.

Roger says on his website that he had the bass modified because he was never happy with it's tone. He wanted a deeper tone. It's too bad he didn't know about bypassing the bass-cut capacitor.

He also mentions on his website that he only has two Ricks; "THE Rick" which is black, and a "red fretless." I'm guessing that the link above to the FG 4001 with the Jazz pickups was either someone making a mistake, or Roger's 4001JG was re-finished in FG for a while.

Here, http://www.rogerglover.com/articles/1-i ... lover.html Roger states that he has been arrested only once in his life; when he was 16.

As for the modded FG 4001, Dawk has worked with RItchie Blackmore and many other notables; I find it hard to believe he would screw up that badly (wrong bass, I mean!). As for Roger, he says, in the question and answer section at rogerglover.com, that he had the mods done in '72. Dawk's site says '74. My viddeo from May '73 shows them done already to a JG 4001.

Odd math.

I see in the "Peter Levett" picture the bass now has wavy Grovers. Thay must have been swapped out at some time, too.

FretlessOnly wrote:Nice links, Ronbo. But even better yet, get a copy of the Live in Concert 72/73 dvd and there are 22-odd minutes of him playing the modded bass at Hofstra Universiy in May '73. It most certainly is JG, so I have no idea what bass that FG I posted is.
...the FG 4001 with the slanted J-PUs was given from Roger to Pete Agnew from Nazareth (I personally saw him playing that bass in 1975) when they were the support act of DP.

So Glover had the mod done on two 4001s? Seems odd that Dawk wouldn't mention that.

Maybe someone can ask him or shed light on this??? :?:
I can provide a pic of the Nazareth bass player with this bass again, it is somewhere in the threads already.

I don't want you to think I'm doubting you, Peter. My only point is that every shred of evidence I've seen points to Glover's 4001 being a JG (which he still has with the mod reversed) with the exception of the link to Dawk's page I posted earlier and your statement about giving the bass to Nazareth's bass player. Since Glover produced their work in the mid-70s, this makes some sense, but I've seen no photos of Glover playing a FG 4001 modded or unmodded.

I saw Deep Purple at the Felt Forum in NYC back in '73, and Roger was playing the JG bass with the Jazz pickups.

They must have blown the back wall out of that place.

Here's a pic of Roger from 1975 with both modded 4001's plus an added bonus of a fretless 4001!

I don't think I've even seen him with a 4001FL.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Never seen him playing it of course. Isn't that a 60's model?
