Schallers vs Vintage tuners

Post by sodbuster »

A few people have noticed and discussed on the corporate forum that the new batch of 620/12s have vintage tuners instead of the specified Schallers, I think the vintage tuners look much better and seem to operate quite well, but technically are they as good as the Schallers, from what i can gather Schallers are about twice as expensive

Also noted on the 2 guitars in the music Zoo is that the slot through the headstock is not routed all the way through again.

I find the Kluson-type better looking and feeling than the Schallers.

The Schallers are pretty good when they are new......but I've seen 50+ year old Kluson type tuners still cranking away fine, and I've had 15 year old Schallers become loose and fail on me.

Simplicity is key here.

+2!

Plus they look soooo cool!!! :D

Caveat: I like the slot top vintage style tuners.

In my experience, the Kluson style Grovers are even smoother than the Klusons are.

I just love this!

I think RIC should just go back to using them on everything! (except the basses)...

This was standard until 1983...

I am a vintage tuner fan too. :D Many of my favourite guitars in my collection have them but only two Rickenbackers have them installed so far. I play my guitars and so functionality is important to me. That they look great is a huge bonus. :D

I have Schallers on my 360/6 and have them on a couple other guitars and never had a problem , the vintage Kluson type are much better looking and I am glad they came on my 620/12, maybe this is a trend of going back to the older style,, whats next trapezes on everything,,hmmm and as far as the routed slots, mine go all the way thru, but there does seem to be some new ones out there with the old style rout.
