Hercules Gs 402B stand: will it eat my finish?

Post by paul_yan »

Hi Paul,

A friend of mine gave me a new Hercules GS 402B stand as a gift. Is its "SFF Rubber" safe for my Ricks' finish? Will it "bite"?

Hercules are supposed to be good to go. Recommended by John Hall himself, IIRC.

The lead geetarista in my band uses those stands, so far with no issues, but then, he still doesn't play Ricks!

Trust me, just about every Rick guitar for sale I send him a link to!

If it were not for the fact that he just bought another Tele he might have gone for the 650C BBR that CW just bought.

*WARNING*

The stand won't eat your finish, but your Ric may well fall off the stand!

If you do a search from about a year ago you'll find a thread that details the problem I had with a version of this stand.
My band had the 'triple' version of this, and a brand new 360 fell off it and took a chunk out of the body and messed up one pick up which needed replacing.

We called Hercules and they were brilliant.
They paid for the repair and sent us a replacement stand.
One of these.

The old one was sold to an unwitting Fender Strat player on Ebay.

The Hercs that I recommend are the ones like this:

They have what Herc calls an "Auto Grab" system, which uses the weight of the guitar or bass to lock the neck of the instrument into place.

has anyone had any paint job issues with stagg guitar stands, stagg label, made in china, does have a sticker warning of, possible 'migration' into instruments with nitrocellulose laquer finish, read this and left stand in the bag?

These are the ones I had recommended to me for such a heavy instrument as a Rick bass. They have worked out wonderfully and not had
a problem at all yet. Although I wondered if I should put a 'softer' material over the black foam that touches the bass. Even if it was as
simple as covering them with the Rick cleaning cloth.
