325and350 pickup spacing

Post by ricmic »

I look at e-bay every morning that I am off the boat just to see what's out there. I as a Beatles fan, have always loved Johns 325s. I prefer a full scale look though. So, enter the 350. I have noticed that some of the 350s seem to have more space between the pups, why? Is it the lack of tremelo, or just the way Ric did some of them? Mark

Bjorn Eriksson's site has some photos and info comparing the 350 Liverpool (now discontinued) and the "reissue" 350v63:

In terms of differences in pickup spacing, unlike say a modern vs vintage 330 where the fret numbers/neck joint influence neck pickup placement, on the 350s I think this has more to do with bridge placement - the v63 bridge is further back towards the tailpiece, leaving more room to spread out the 3 pickups.

A 350 has 24 frets and close pickup spacing (usually high gains). The neck/body joint is at or about the 24th fret. This spacing looks similar to a 325. A "V" series 350 has 21 frets and a wider pickup spacing. The neck/bpdy joint is at or about the 21st fret. This moves the bridge toward the end of the guitar resulting in the wider spacing.
