yeah, badeggs, but you've got your cover on so you have no other option but to dig a hole in your finish with the thumb !

this mod was for dudes without the cover.

I think the best spot to rest your thumb without the cover on is the B string. ;)

Still can't believe someone managed to do that...I thought I played a lot! I do like what this guy is doing here, a bit more elegant than the Pickuardian. I'd like to see this bridge he mentioned...

anything to preserve the original hardware is 8) . i think ricks look great with all the large bulky hardware. i sold my "rickenfaker" buddy a 4001 bridge assy to replace the one on his gibson grabber G3, and after he painted it jetglo and added an ebony fretboard...the bass is 8) . the rick bridge was made for a grabber body style !

i had even cut away the inner area of a 4001 tailpiece to insert a badarse one bridge to keep that rick look. never got to use it but still have it.

I agree. For all the incessant whining that certain members of this forum (most of whom have since either left or were kicked out!) used to do about RIC's "antiquated" tailpiece/bridge, the gaping hole around the treble pickup, the giant bridge pickup surround, Rick O Sound, and the string mute...These features are all a big part of the look and sound that make these basses so unique and desirable.

hey...if the shoes weren't such a fiasco to make and magnetize, we'd probably still be having them issued on the 4000 series today and we would not know any better ! someone thought of a better idea thru experimentation (and probably complaints from musicians) and this is what we have today . i think the understring higains sound great because i've never had a real horseshoe setup to compare with. i'm totally pleased with the amounts of dust i've disturbed over the years (with tone , of course !). :D

btw...anyone else ever used rubber magnets besides RIC and my school teacher on her metal chalkboard !

HA! When I wrote that post I had a feeling someone might call me out on the whole horseshoe thing. And it only took 11 minutes too!

Great sounding pickups, those horseshoes. Too bad I don't like them! 8)

But what I was trying to say in my earlier post is that a few years back there was quite a bit of whining here about how RIC continues to incorporate all of these antiquated features into the 4001/4003 and should update it by replacing/changing all of those features. That, IMO would remove much of what makes us all love the look and sound of the 4001/4003.

As much as I don't like HS pickups, I'm all for RIC continuing to make them and install them on those cool RI RM 1999 basses that they sell in Japan!

be nice if those japan versions had real shoes ! if you remove all those unique rick hardware features, then you could call it a 4004 !

Wow, this is a really nice item. I like to purchase one. Problem is I'm living outside the US (Germany).
If there is anybody who could help me out as a go between I would be excited.
