I am happy to report no Rickenbackers were injured in the live performance of The WHO at the Super Bowl half-time show.

It looked like Fender had the Who in their back pocket.

They still sounded pretty good! Would have loved to see Townshend play a Ric, though.

Yea, I thought it was a pretty cool performance for a couple of 60-somethings. When I first saw them live in an Omaha baseball stadium back in the mid '60s I hadn't a glimmer that I would be watching them still doing a live worldwide gig in 2010. I didn't even think I'd be around in 2010. And here we all are!! Yes, Mel, if he would have done a couple of windmills with a 340 it would have been cool. I guess that why we have 2010 gadgets like Photoshop!! I'll have him playing a RIC in a day or so!

I think ol' Pete's getting to the point where he'd break before the guitar. Unpopular opinion, I know, but they looked a bit long in the tooth to me. I was a big Who fan when they were in their prime. I kept picturing that early group and it made watching the SB show a bit painful. Not only did I miss the destruction, but I missed the guitar flips, the full 360 windmills, the aerials, the splits, Daltry's 30 foot mike lassoo, Entwhistle, the solos, the high energy level, and both of their voices. Pete's wardrobe malfunction was interesting, though.

Sometimes, old rockers should just f-f-f-f-fade away. Disclaimer: I bought the "I can see for miles" 45 when it was just starting to climb the charts and watched Pete's ear get blown out on the Smothers Brothers show, so I'm no teenager either.

Given the choice between old Pete and Justin Timberlake, I'll take The WHO anytime, anywhere until they fold. Creaky Pete was still fine for my listening pleasure.

If you ever are asked to do a halftime survey, please don't tell them you want hip-hop back on halftime stage.

The Doobies are still touring. Maybe next year!!

Best,

Justin WHO? Nah, no rap or hip-hop..... gimme the latest pop tart and the mute button on my remote and I'm a happy viewer. Or, they could just have the cheerleaders do an extended dance routine (also muted). Eye candy and a chance to review the first half with the gang. Creaky Pete...... I like that! Tom

I'm no youngster either I miss the destruction as well, so here is a piece of what was The Who a long time ago. the explosion knocked Daultry of the stage and set Pete's hair on fire. one too many charges put in the drums to blow them up.

LOL!

enjoy all you Who fans out there

IMHO, the best thing about the show was that it was live, mistakes and offkey harmonies and all, but I'll take that anytime over singing to canned background trax. The show wasn't perfect by any means, but the boys left it all on the stage, as it should be. Oh yeah, I thought it was really cool that Pete got the last note.
