Anyone else buying parts they don't need?

Post by ilan »

Anyone else here buys parts they don't need? I sometimes buy Ric parts that are discontinued off eBay if I can get a good deal, just in case I might need them in the future.

For example, what if something happens to the handrest on my Shadow? Other BT parts I can make if I have to by having chrome parts powdercoated (os spray painted), but what about the black handrest? So last week I bought a BT handrest for $30. Now I'm thinking. what if someone else really needs one and I outbid them and got it just to have it in the parts drawer?

Same thing with a black TRC (white lettering) I once got, just because RIC don't make them any more. And two NOS sets of pre-'85 folded type bass truss rods.

You know how it is when you actually need a discontinued part and you can wait for months and there is none for sale. When was the last time you saw pre-85 rods on eBay?

(I also buy 70's grey bottom Fender P pickups whenever I can find them for under $200... got a herd of Fenders to look after, too).

Anyone else has that habit?

I have the same illness. I buy parts that I think I'm gonna need, and sometimes I end up not needing them for one reason or another. As a result, I've got quite a RIC parts stash. Has to be worth at least a couple thousand bucks! I wonder what will happen to it when I close my eyes for good?!

One of these days when I thin out my herd enough, I'll sell off the parts I don't need as well.
