Congratulations, John!

I’ve just got a new 4003 FG made in the 1st week of 2010. The 2-piece neck is really a big construction leap forward! It’s increased mechanical strength is to be praised. Too boot, no deadspots at all!

The neck thickness is rather identical to my ’98 4003 which is quite thinner than the 2001~2009/3 necks, and very comfortable for a small-hander like me. The neck thickness is as follows:

1st---- 22.8 mm
5th---- 22.9 mm
9th---- 223.2 mm
12th----24.8 mm
15th----25 mm

The only thing I was not happy with was that the bridge saddles, like some 4003s made after about 2005, rattled a bit when the strings were played. I dissasembled the bridge, wrapped a round of thin aluminum foil strip to the underposts between the holes and the trangles, and stick 2 tiny pieces of aluminum foil to the trangle bottoms. Problem solved!

I understand and respect the collectible value of vintage instruments, however that said, the current Ric basses are the best looking, and definitely superior construction. Yeah, I dream of being able to order options like checkerboard binding, and a nice re-issue horseshoe, but overall, tremendous.

Yep. Add a little bit of checker binding and it'd be full-tilt win!

+2! I'd love to have CB on my AFG 4003FL...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
