Perhaps this question has already been asked and answered here , but ...
I've been in conversation on -- ahem -- another forum about playing along with the Beatles remastered CDs, and the subject of why the tuning on the recordings seems to vary and is almost always sharp compared to A =440. I know that European "A "can vary from American A, but I'm wondering if anyone knows for sure if the Beatles simply tuned to a piano at Abbey Road or if EMI might have had one of the old Conn Strobotuners. I know they experimented with variable speed tape machines, but did they ever try to tune to a set pitch routinely?
