I find it ironic also that they 'watermarked' their pictures, an act which effectively is a confession to being part of the infringement!

Mattia, that particular one seems to show a genuine Rick bass, but the sale is likely a fake. Three things: 1. A real Rick in Bejing is unlikely; 2. $340 is dirt cheap and if you were successful in receiving something, it would probably be dirt; 3. He has a 50% satisfaction rating, according to that sale site. Absolutely no good reason to pursuit this sale.

Hey Paul, you're right in all your points except #1. You can count on me for having 4 4001/4003 basses in my room with me right here in Beijing, haha! I've also seen and played and set up at least 6 genuine Ricks of my local friends'.

Oh my................As someone whose mother language is Chinese (though born and raised in Taiwan which geographically is, but not politically yet, a part of China), and who lives and works in Beijing, China, I really feel ashamed and angry for all these shameless copyright infringement and ugly counterfeiting acts from my fellow countrymen. I feel like apologising to the world, really!

I've been actively promoting the concept of copyright, intelectual property, and righteous morality (yes they really need to be cultivated on these subjects) in China's guitar and music forums hoping to help with getting rid of the barbarianism in people's minds.

Believe me, there are many Chinese who feel the same as I do, and we all hope it to end soon.

Paul, kudos on your fight for what is right. Unfortunately, that type of thinking you are fighting is taking root more and more these days. Think of illicit music file sharing. My son just last week got a very nasty virus downloading music files that completely took over his computer and there was no way to get rid of it but by a complete reformat and starting over. He writes software for a living and should know better too. I told him serves him right for stealing someone else's creativity.

I don't understand why just because copying via digital means is easy and convenient why that makes it okay. Same for instrument copies - just because you can program a CNC to make copies, it doesn't make it right or even legal to do so.

Don't wear the hat of appologist - you are not the one doing the wrong thing. On the contrary, you are trying to educate the morality of it being wrong.

Thanks for the compliment, Jeff! I actually don’t feel offended when people are on the “made in China vs. the U.S., Europe, Australia, etc” topics. Some of the MIC products do have large progresses to make in QC and durabilty, IMHO. I sure hope their quality improve!

Yes,illicit music file sharing has vehemently harmed the music industry and music makers! I’ve been a pop music producer/engineer for 20 years, and I’ve been witnessing and experiencing the environmental degeneration of the music makingl world caused by it.

I also agree with you on the morality issue on musical instrument counterfeiting. There are a few guitar factories in the Shandong province forging copies and fakes with CNC machines. They obviously either don’t have no cognition of,or no respect for intellectual property laws.
