I can't disagree with that. I love the 4004's, just much harder to find, but they are out there.

I'm not sure how many posts you need to get a PM, but I sent info in one to you since posting the link here is against the forum rules, I believe.

Louisville, CO must be the exception. Consistent 4004 availablility, 4003s almost totally absent. It has been a blast going up there to try 4004s out every now and then (all have been Cii). Gotta look for those 4003s in Denver.

Thanks Robert... I was unable to open the links to the posts. Guess I need to make another 96 posts before I can get my security clearance! :D

It must be nice to be able to go to a local store to try out a new Rick. There probably isn't a new one (or any Rick) sitting in a store within 50 miles of me.

If you're ever on a visit to Greenville, SC (we're a couple hours south of you) I'd be happy to put a 33 year old 4000 in your hands.

But you'll have to hand it back in the end. :)

While you're here, you could arrange to check out this 4003 for comparison: http://greenville.craigslist.org/msg/1591366606.html

Hey George - That's not fair! But greatly appreciated! When I can find the time, I'll send you a PM and maybe we can hook up. Thanks!

If I were looking to find the lightest RIC with the thinnest neck, what year(s) 4001 or 4003 would you suggest?

Light & thin, I think I would go with a '74/'75 4001. You'd find the most consistent neck profiles in that era - they're very fast, slim necks.

I'd say even '76, at least some of them. My '76 feels just like my '74.
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
