Ricks-A-Plenty?

I'm just noticing, for the first time in years that I can remember, there actually seems to be a fair bit of Ric stock around.

Granted, it's all 4003 - but I'm aware of at least 3 shops, as well as other sellers on E-bay, flogging new '03s, all 2010 models.

Majority seem to be MG, but there's a couple in FG, and one MID!

Prices are variable - but all are well under the £2000 mark, some more than others. Not bad when considering the main importer wants over £2000 direct from them!

Are prices coming down a little everywhere from recent years? How the pricing/stocks situation elswehere in Ric land worldwide?

The dealer prices are probably coming down a bit. A couple of years ago, it was getting to the point where the dealers had no problem selling Ricks whether they discounted from the suggested list price or not. With the economy the way it is now, dealers must be realizing that if they want to sell guitars, they'll have to offer a discount since people are just not spending the way they did a couple of years ago.

If I wanted, I could snag a new 4004Cii for much less than the US MSRP for a 4003, and I've done some homework and found that new 4003s can easily be had for that price as well. Enough said. It's been this way for all of 2010 and some of 2009, at least Stateside.

I'm actively looking for a new 4003 and I can definitely say that there are plenty of them available in all colors in the US. The difference in dealer pricing varies greatly, but you really shouldn't pay anything close to full retail in this market.

On our (dutch) most prominent secondhand website (marktplaats) there are 2 Rickenbacker basses for sale for very reasonable prices for several weeks now (without selling). They used to sell quite fast. One of them is a JG/BT/BH even (of which I'm constantly telling myself I do not need it as I have a MID/BT/BH and do not want to collect the same bass in different colors).

POTR, has probibly the most basses in stock right now I have ever seen since I started going there in 2006, usually they were sold before he even got and got shipped out as soon as he recieved them,I went yesterday to pick up my V63 he did some work on for me, and actually had to decide what to buy, he has several Larado's, several 4003'2 FG, MG,a few Cii, I was going to possibly buy the TG Cii he has, and the wood grain on this bass is gorgeous, but the TG just didnt appeal to me so I settled on one of the MG 400's he had just recieved and was just opening the boxes, and im not really a big fan of MG but I already have 2 FG, 2 MIDBLU, 2 JG, so settled on the MG, because it the only other diffent finish,but I think the new 2 piece necks are very nice, actually the action right out of the box is almost to where I like it, everyone I have gotten before always had to have the nut shaved to get the strings and action to were I like it , also picked up a toaster yesterday for it, and already had a set of vintage knobs I'll put on her today, I think the vintage knobs look much better and add more class to the instrument than those cheesy looking knobs they come with.

It's nice to see the supply/ demand even out a little and see more people that want Rics get them in their hands. It's also nice to test drive some occasionally.

yes , I already have the whole lot of ric basses except for the C64s, but have the C64, so I feel no need to get the s, but the price I got it the mg for yesterday was a cant refuse price. lowest price I have paid for a Ric since 2006, I can still go back and get a couple more, all the prices for what he has in stock are to good to resist.

it seem very far from the almost red wood used in the past ... you know the red fretboard IMO is a part of the rickenbacker look and feel ...

Well, I can certainly say the fingerboard on my 08 4003 MID is dark and gorgeous--has lots of character.

I think it is more the picture's over exposure that makes that look so pale. The dark streaks are shadows from the strings. A proper exposure would show the wood to be more "normal."

No the woods they are useing for the fretboards are alot lighter, the other mapleglo I was looking at the fretboard was very light almost light orange looking thats why I bought the one I did the fretboard was alittle darker but compared to all my other Ric's, the fretboards on all the new 4003's and and even the c64s is very light and very pale compared past basses.

I think the prices in guitar guitar are too high and most people end up buying on the bay.I mean who would pay guitar guitar that price when you could get it £300-£400 cheaper on Ebay.Nice to see another Glaswegian on the RRF Haw.
